The Known - The Unknown.....Fight continues

Our world consists of the ‘known’ and the ‘unknowns’. The limit of ‘know’ is our territory within which we feel comfortable. Beyond that is the empire of the ‘unknown’, the realm of mystery. We relentlessly try to concur them and bring them under the rule of the ‘known’. Somewhere between the ‘known’ and the ‘unknown’ hides in silence the ‘unknowable’. Like the lost pages of history, like the randomness of nature, the ‘unknowable’ is the lost Atlantis. It is the hidden secret territory that we can never concur.

The fight between the ‘known’ and ‘unknown’ continues. Our weapon is called the ‘artificial’. ‘Artificial’ is simple, ‘artificial’ is predictable, unlike nature. Using that weapon we have covered a huge ground. Many of us now feel that we have almost reached our destination; we are the self-proclaimed king of the whole universe.

Happy within the huge kingdom we failed to realize that our kingdom might not be as vast as we think, we have failed to recognize the power of ‘unknowable’ who has allied with the 'unknown'. We failed to realize that our predictability lied in simplicity. The more ground we cover, the more complex we become. Slowly as we grow, we ourselves become unpredictable, we ourselves become random, we ourselves become the ‘unknown’.

Cheers!

"our predictability lied in simplicity"...a novel though indeed !...
it seems everything ultimately boils down to the existential question ''who am i'?"
n the tug of war continues between the so cld known n the so cld unknown..

  10. Knowing that there is something which is unknown to us keeps us moving ahead and uncover more grounds. May be, it is just that we do not know the limits..Or may be..as we uncover more...there is more unknowable to be covered by our artificial weapons and in the end we and the unknowable are all same and indistinguishable.

  11. Some wise person aptly said-"If you can't afford education, try ignorance"

Things don't change, but what does is the way we look at them. So because "things" are infinite, hence the"Khoj" is destined to be infinite...happy journey :)

  12. I wonder how you have been think so clearly about such complex things. Honestly after a couple of reads, I could understand the "unknown" and the "artificial"; "Unknowable" still remains a mystery to me. Whatever I could understand, amazes me.

  20. I'm  not confused now. I think I can understand what you tried to convey, In our eagerness(greed) to know more, we try to solve the maze in life  and end up getting entwined and complicate things and become the unknown, wherein we lose track of everything. We often profess knowledge on many things, only to know that they are our perception(artificial) of what existed and it is drastically different from the reality.
I liked the line which spoke of simplicity.

    Good one, again :-)

  22. There is plenty of beauty/knowledge we miss to see in this world before we leave it.
But if we are happy in our small kingdom is it necessary to look beyond it ?

Anyways i like your perspective too :)

  24. well it isn't...but that's what humanity is trying to do...the predictable artificial world we are in, is a bit boring for me...it's the randomness of nature that i like more :)...thanks Reicha :)

  25. The unknown can be exciting, yet it can also be scary. I think the scary part of it, is why we stick with what we know. Life becomes routine, and somehow we're content with that.

  26.  It is hard to find what is unknown, so probably the first search should be to understand what we seek, and in our lives where we seek so many things, it is hard to arrive at those few most important things beyond our humdrum existence. Nice post, though a tad' difficult to understand due to the complexity of the topic itself!

  27. I think the unknown has some enticing possibilities. The known allows you to be comfortable and 'happy' . But the unknown is a mystery. Could be better, could be worse. :) Nice post. :)

    Very philosophical :)

  31. Does the unknown make us insecure? Is that why we need to conquer it, to proclaim our supremacy over something we do not understand?

  33. soo true sub....
ther is a thin line b/n unknown and known..and most of the even aftr knowing some one for decades we think them known and secret lies beneath which is unknown.
ther lies known in every known things!isnt it!

  38. It is said that an illiterate farmer is happier than a literate pundit (assuming there is no shortage of food to either of them). I feel that a literate person knows too much on the enormity of the world of 'unknown' compared to the farmer. Hence, why do we need to wonder on the 'unknown' ? If I did not even realise there is a big world of 'unknown' beyond me, I would then be content with what I have; hence I would be more happy. So, human knowledge (and hence the more acute sense that there is the world of 'unknown') is making human beings more unhappy. So, let's just forget the world of 'unknown' and be more happy :-)

  39. Quite interesting post, you've highlighted the facts about human behavior in a beautiful and pleasing manner. We are audacious towards the known, however the unknown can be beautiful as well :-)
