MAGIC OF LIFE

Prologue
As a kid I believed in magic. Magic to me was supernatural, something that happened in the fairy tales, things that happened in Neverland. As I grew up I realized that magic was just a trick. The magic of ‘magic’ went out of my life, only to comeback much later…

As a kid I never herd of Herrmann or Houdini, to me P.C. Sarkar was the greatest magician ever. His tricks made me believe that fairy tales were true….Magic was real…

As I grew up I wanted to learn magic. I caught hold of one of my relatives who knew magic. He taught me. It was an instant hit amongst my friends. I loved the attraction I got. But magic? What happened to it? The moment I learned the tricks, it wasn’t magic any more. It was about fooling people to get attention…the wonderland vanished…innocence lost…

I dropped my phone. The camera stopped working.

I dropped my phone again. The camera started working.

Epilogue
It happens many times. Remember slapping an electronic device and then it starts working? Ordinary things start looking extraordinary when you think about it. What is magic? It isn’t supernatural as I thought as a kid. It isn’t a trick as I thought as an adult.

A shattered egg coming together and joining to form a perfect unbroken piece of egg is magic. It is not supernatural. According to science it is perfectly possible. You have never seen that happening because the probability of all the pieces of egg to come back and join exactly the way it was before it broke is low.

Magic isn’t supernatural; it is something that has very very low probability of happening. What were the odds that my phone fell the second time from the right height to attend the right velocity and fall in the right way to hit the right place with the right pressure to fix the camera of my phone? Very very low. That is magic!

You were born after competing with over 100million sperms. The chance of you taking birth was less than 1/100milion! That was magic. You are magic. Neverland does not exist in a far away place. It is right here, right now.  There is magic all around you; all you need to do is look for it. That is the magic of life.

  6. Magic. Ah! It surrounds everyone. More than favored possibilities. It's creation of a life form.

  14. Subhrashish, I think that your logic is correct only for certain points that you make.

Like the last bit about the sperms. Among the millions, one was going to get in - but then it does not matter, out of the millions, which ever one makes it, would be still me, may be a little different me in terms of genetics, but would still be me. May be a female me, may be a thinner me - but still me, because all the others won't be there any way.

I am sorry it sounds too complicated and confusing, even to me :)

  15. I hope you and Subhrashis don't mind my replying to this comment... You are very right in saying that it would be you... but only to the extent of being your parents' child. Beyond that, if you are say of a different gender, or maybe look different, then it wouldn't really be you.. would it?

it's a valid point...depends on your definition of 'me'.....if 'me' just means myself then i would agree with Janhvi...a you with a different body and different mind (no comment on soul) isn't really u...
