Welcome to KHOJ: The search to know our roots and understand the meaning of our existence.

Prejudice is the biggest problem in the society. It can be it in terms of religion, cast, sex, skin-colour, status etc. Prejudice can also be in form of the feeling that human beings are the greatest creation, or even patriotism about artificially created borders. The motto of KHOJ is to gain knowledge and break that prejudice. But there is a word of caution for the readers. To break the prejudice KHOJ might throw upon you the concepts it believes in. If the reader believes on KHOJ’s perception without question, then KHOJ itself might incept a prejudice in the readers mind thus failing in it own motto. KHOJ is trying to break its own world of prejudice, but at times that prejudice might get reflected in its writing. Please do challenge them.

GENDER BLENDER

Ever wondered what would have happened to Marlin, father of Nemo, once his beloved wife died, if the story was not conceived by the biased perception of a human mind? He would not have stayed Marlin, but become Marla instead. Marlin and Nemo belong to a strange species called Clown-fish who are sequential hermaphrodites. This means that they have the freedom of changing their sex without the need of costly, far from perfect, surgeries. Once the female dies the largest male undergoes a sex change and takes her position. Marlin's position in turn would be taken up by the non-mating males in the group. Some animals and plants seem to give their species gender flexibility. Human beings, unfortunately, do not enjoy that luxury. To humans, uncomfortable with things that are different, flexibility of gender is considered an abnormality. Our modern culture classifies human beings strictly into two genders – the male and the female. This unnatural classification has no place for those who do not naturally fit into these two pigeon holes, leaving them with a life of shame for no fault of their own.

3000yrs Old Secret of God Revealed

I am not a religious person. I believe in no ‘devils’ and hence I find no need for ‘god’. Upanishads, the ancient Indian book, tries to answer what god means in a different way, and somehow I happen to like it. Again the poetry of Upanishads is open to interpretation, and each individual can interpret it in the way they like. Religious thoughts did not attract me to the ‘Upanishads’, rather I found it as a window to the mind of our ancestors. I expected mythologies, rituals, 330 million gods. Isn't that what Hinduism is all about? But, what I found was something that I did not expect. Yes there were rituals; yes there were mythologies, but they only acted as spice to a rich underlying philosophy coming out of the brilliant minds of the bygone era. The philosophies have been passed down the generations for centuries orally and would not have survived without the spices. But what is interesting is the amount of research these people have done on the human psychology at that time. Human beings quest to know why we are here, to know who put us here, when it all began.....the ultimate truth, is probably as old as humans themselves. Even Vedas questioned:

RV 10.129
1. THEN was not non-existent nor existent: there was no realm of air, no sky beyond it.
What covered in, and where? And what gave shelter? Was water there, unfathomed depth of water?
2 Death was not then, nor was there aught immortal: no sign was there, the day's and night's divider.
That One Thing, breathless, breathed by its own nature: apart from it was nothing whatsoever.
3 Darkness there was: at first concealed in dark, All was indiscriminated chaos.
All that existed then was void and form less: by the great power of Warmth was born that Unit.
4 Thereafter rose Desire in the beginning, Desire, the primal seed and germ of Spirit.
Sages who searched with their heart's thought discovered the existent's kinship in the non-existent.
5 Transversely was their severing line extended: what was above it then, and what below it?
There were begetters, there were mighty forces, free action here and energy up yonder
6 Who verily knows and who can here declare it, whence it was born and whence comes this
creation?
The Gods are later than this world's production. Who knows then whence it first came into being?
7 He, the first origin of this creation, whether he formed it all or did not form it,

Whose eye controls this world in highest heaven, he verily knows it, or perhaps he knows not.

Gods came later? Does that mean they did not create us?

The Whore and the Hypocrite

Animals are sexual beings and human beings are animals. Even a male fetus in the womb has erection (unfortunately there is no way to know about the females). Human beings have realized that and respected the fact for centuries until some stupid came up with the idea of chastity. A word that suddenly made ‘sex’ sound bad also meant that incest, fornication and prostitution became sin. Unfortunately the worst victims of chastity are women. Just because they take the pain of giving birth, society rewarded them with the blame of the original sin.

In Pursuit of Pain

I believe nothing in this world is bad, I believe in no devils. That is probably one reason why I find no need for god. Good and bad are biased perception of human intelligence, like god and devil. It exists only in human mind. That is also the place where pain resides. Pain is something unpleasant, yet, it is through endurance of pain that greatness is achieved. Ever heard of the Okipa ceremony of the Mandan Indians? If you haven’t check this out>> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandan#Religion! It is a ceremony about creation of earth where warriors prove their courage by going through pain. The warriors are starved, skin slit, hanged and then rewarded by cutting off their left pinkie finger. Finally they run their last run. Those who get out alive get respect and fame. It sounds horrible and painful, but many of these warriors have done it twice (I don’t know which finger they cut off the second time)! Pain is not something that cannot be controlled if the reward is great. Sometimes getting rid of pain is in itself a great reward.

Strange!

This world is a strange world. While from Obama to Pope all wants selfish publicity at any cost, they are also people who hates when someone else publicize at their cost. We are strange people. We love to put all our personal information on facebook to get attention, at the same time hate facebook for keeping a track of our personal data for 90 days. India is a strange country. Here we wait anxiously to see a porn star in a TV show, but protest for slightest sexual content on children movies. We make someone god for scoring 99 centuries, and then make the same person a devil for not being able to score just one more. We protest when onion price touches 50 rupees, of which only 5 rupees goes to the farmer; but are happy to pay 60 rupees for buying water mixed with gas and sugar that costs just 5 rupees to make. Here we make a cop hero when he catches the people who make us mad, and then claim that the same person is mad because he is calling us corrupt.

In pursuit of happiness

Human beings pursuit for happiness has been eternal. Search the internet and you will find thousand advices that are suppose to make you happy, from buying a cat to donating an organ. Obviously it is something that is damn important to us. But, like the Holy Grail, the search has eluded us. Why is it so important to us? What make us happy?

THANKS!

Hi All! It’s sweet November and winter is knocking on the door.  But it was this October that had been sweeter for me. I am finally back writing for KHOJ after almost a month…and what a month it was. My last post was the anniversary post where I poured in the ideas that covered a year of KHOJ [Click here]. The very next day our little angel Hridhima came and changed our lives forever. I took three weeks off to be with her. In between, while she slept, I came up with Evolving Daddy. But all the while I ignored KHOJ. It was YOU readers who kept it alive. For that I owe you all a BIG gratitude! I would also like to thank a few special bloggers here.

It’s a good life [Anand]

"Here is ANAND and his Musings...because life is like that...Check out his blog for a better and happier life....:)" - SUB
~~~~~~~~~~
When SUB asked me to write a guest post for KHOJ, I didn’t have any second thought and said yes. Of course, who will say no to SUB and his lovely, thoughtful blog? I thank him for choosing me to write a post here. It’s indeed an honour! When I pondered on the topic for him, this was what came to my mind. It’s a good life out there and why can’t we enjoy it to the fullest?
Suicide [by Prateek]
The opinion below is that of the writer and not necessarily of Khoj....any one willing to write a guest post here can email me at subhrashis.adhikari@gmail.com >>>
"Hi Again! I guess you all know this unwise blogger who goes by the name Prateek. About him? Eh?! Ah! Oh! ... You know his witty side if you have read his blog." - SUB
~<o>~
Subhrashis asked me to put a witty bio before I continue with my post. I tried hard but it is really difficult for me to come up with some witty stuff until I am not getting paid to write. Anyhow, this is Prateek from The Unwise Prevails over the Wise. Weird name, I know. Either Subhrashis was under weed or was in an ecstasy of his fatherhood when he said, “Yes, jabber on my blog Prateek but be naaice.” My post turned out to be different this time, different from my niche.
I am just another girl among oh so many. I just love to spend hours altogether listening to songs on my system and viewing pictures of my family members, especially my young cousins. I love talking and people around me stay amazed by my quality of constant talking. Am an introvert to the world, but my true friends know that am actually anything but an introvert. Am extremely fond of reading ( mainly fiction) and of writing. As the name of my blog suggests (Thoughtful Thoughts), I write about any thought that stays long enough for me to pen (type) down as a post. Thoughts are in millions, but thoughtful thoughts are a few.
First, I would thank Subhrashis for giving me this opportunity of guest blogging. It's an honor to be a part of his blog. I'm a Practising Company Secretary who is not at all like everyone else in this profession. My mantra in life is to chill. The best quality in me is that I don't judge people which helps in having strong bonds with everyone I know. As many of you know that I am a poet. I love travelling, cooking and sleeping. I'm a big big fan of action movies and love to read thrillers. However, trading in share market tops my list of what I can't live without. Lastly, for this poem credit goes to Subhrashis as I stole words from his timeline and composed it. Do read the timeline on this blog
At present, I am working in the marketing department of a steel company, the office is in Kolkata.  Amid pushing and shoving of the metro trains, I try to keep on thinking. I like writing abstract stuff, which I find tough, but sometimes I get some success with some topics on abstract front. I like to write on subjects that surround me, with a different angle, though every time I don’t succeed.
Anyways, I am a big fan of the writings of SUB and here I am contributing for the first time as a guest blogger.
I am thankful to Mr. Subhrashis Adhikari who gave this opportunity. When I mailed him this post, he asked me to write something about my blog and brief intro. Before saying anything about my blog I m mesmerizing few verses by the enlightener of Gazal  Jagjit Singh:
“ye shohrat bhi lelo ye doulat bhi lelo magar mujhko louta do meri jindgaani vo kagaj ki kasti vo barish ka paai”
Well no one can fulfill his place in the field of gazals.  Memories always leave their footprints in our hearts. The thing which we can do is that we can memorize those instants. These are merely some joyous and painful moments of our life, but when somewhere you sit alone only these instants spread your lips wide, your eyes starts twinkling. My blog is the mixture of memories; memories may be one day old or 1 min old. These are memories and your appreciations which make my mind to write.
My name is Anuradha Sharma. I am a b.tech 4th year student. I started writing blogs last year in September. I am not a regular blogger. I write just for my own improvement. More than writing I love reading blogs. I can spend my whole day sitting and thinking alone beneath a tree. Being a moody person I love doing things in my own way.  Having a kiddish nature many times I do some foolish things. My best friend always calls me idiot and mad. But the same I am a bit matured too.
I wrote this post last year. Here I am talking about “happiness”.
Hi, my name is Somyanshu Arora. First of all I would like to thank Mr. Subhrashis Adhikari for this opportunity. I am a native of New Delhi but currently I reside in Ropar as I am pursuing B.Tech from IIT Ropar. Blogging to me is something more than a hobby. I have been blogging for nearly a year now. I like to write about different things in a different way. For example, I once compared how our feelings can be compared to lewis acids and bases. Another example would be my series TRUE STORIES (to be frank they are not actually true, I just kept the name because the characters are based on people I see around)..in which I have described how a boy changes. You can find all my posts at my blog  www.somyanshu.com. Do come there and help me improve through your precious comments.
M.U.K.T.I.
Monday, 4th October, 2010 … Just born … excited – nervous – alone…staring at the vast unknown. Where to start? Where to head? She crawled slowly … looking around for attention. Along came an angle - Jhonny Walker…few tips and she started to walk…as she walked more angles came by…and then more followed….excited – nervous, but alone no more…a year long journey, her name – KHOJ.
Soul Searching
In a recent post I questioned, ‘who am I?’. The question was left unanswered. Most scientists say we are what we think we are. The feeling of ‘I’ is a 20-watt fountain of energy operating in the brain. But, many philosophers claim that we are not the body, but the soul. They claim that our soul is struck in the cycle of life and death, and it is thorough praying to god, or through good deeds, we obtain freedom and become one with the almighty.
The Known - The Unknown.....Fight continues
Our world consists of the ‘known’ and the ‘unknowns’. The limit of ‘know’ is our territory within which we feel comfortable. Beyond that is the empire of the ‘unknown’, the realm of mystery. We relentlessly try to concur them and bring them under the rule of the ‘known’. Somewhere between the ‘known’ and the ‘unknown’ hides in silence the ‘unknowable’. Like the lost pages of history, like the randomness of nature, the ‘unknowable’ is the lost Atlantis. It is the hidden secret territory that we can never concur.
Mind Nudity! [by Chintan]
This is the first guest post in KHOJ from a crazy kudi Punjab di with one big misconception. She is crazy because she is different…rarest of personality who does not dare to speak her heart out. She is adorable, she is charming, she can shock you with her sharp words, she is a true Sagittarian who wants to rule the world…What misconception? She once gave me an award for my ‘intelligence’. Without wasting any further time, here’s Chintan unleashed
